Map of Jerusalem

For a project that required us to create a game for non-traditional applications, such as for education, my team and I worked on recreating the Siege of Jerusalem in 70 AD, with a twist.

I was responsible for creating the map for the game, an incredibly fun assignment. I've always wanted to dabble in amateur cartography, and this was a brilliant opportunity.

The game used two versions of the map. The primary one has a landscape orientation, and was used for the fast travel mechanic. The secondary one (portrait orientation) was meant for a puzzle mini-game, and had its legend and location tags removed.

The challenge in this was coming to terms with the fact that the compass north would not be pointing up in my primary map, as is the case traditionally. I'd never actually seen any map where North wasn't pointed up, and I was struggling with what the game required of me. Until a few days before this was due, when I, by comlete accident and not an insignificant amount of serendipity, stumbled across such a map!
